Here are answers to some frequently asked questions (please reach out to us via Facebook or email if you have an enquiry that isn't answered here):
Q: How often should I feed my pets treats?
A: We recommend 1 treat daily for guinea pigs, and 1-2 treats daily for rabbits to supplement their normal diet. Please also use your own discretion as to how many treats you think are suitable for your pets, depending on their specific dietary requirements.
Q: What should a typical domestic rabbit's diet look like?
A: 80% of a rabbit's diet should consist of good quality, fresh hay. They need access to unlimited hay as they are grazers, and will eat small amounts frequently throughout the day. Some examples are meadow, oaten (available on our website) and timothy hay. Alfalfa hay should only be given to younger rabbits up to a few months old due to it's higher calcium content. It is not recommended for adult rabbits.
Unlimited hay, a small amount of high quality pellets, a handful of fresh greens (NOT iceberg lettuce) and 1-2 treats daily is a suitable diet for a rabbit. We always suggest doing further research regarding what to feed your rabbit, including suitable fruits and veggies. A good place to start: https://kb.rspca.org.au/knowledge-base/what-should...
Q: What does a typical guinea pig's diet look like?
Similar to the diet of a rabbit, but not exactly the same. Unlimited hay, fresh green leafy veggies (again, NOT iceberg lettuce), a small amount of high quality guinea pig pellets and a natural source of daily vitamin C from fruits and veggies. Q: What pellets are used in your treats and food mix?
A: We use Vella pellets, from Vella Stock Feeds which is a 100% Australian, family owned business. Vella pellets are a high quality and popular option for rabbit/guinea pig feed. As mentioned above, pellets should only make up a very small amount of your rabbit/guinea pig's daily diet.
Q: What are the benefits of getting my rabbits de-sexed (spayed or neutered)?
A: It is important to have your rabbits de-sexed for a variety of reasons. Not only does it prevent cancer (as high as 80% of intact does will develop cancer of the reproductive system by the time they are 6 years old, source: https://www.goddardvetgroup.co.uk/blog/do-rabbits-...), it also promotes good behaviour in rabbits due to reduced raging hormones. Most males (bucks) will eventually start to spray smelly urine to mark their territory, can become aggressive and territorial. This behaviour usually dissipates once they have been neutered (speaking from our experiences).
